The Goddess called Gauri

Gauri is an incarnation of Parvati. Ganapati is a son of Parvati. Still it is a belief that she is a sister of Shri Ganesha. Thus the entire ceremony is known to be an occasion for those married girls who come to stay with their parents for festive occasion.

These Gauris are ceremoniously welcome in the house. The impressions of their feet are colorfully stamped all over the house right from the entrance of the house. Water is sprinkled over them and rice thrown over them. These images are taken around the entire house. These images are usually handled by unmarried girls. The hostess of the house questions Gauri, “Where have you come?” and the girl holding the images, while answering describes the house where they are brought. Then the hostess utters, “Come to us with golden feet and stay with us forever”.

The image of the Goddess, in complete Hindalium lightweight material. But seriously lovely to look at..

Street Unphotographed

Tried my hand at street photography. Managing to gulp down the lump in my throat, when I face the camera at innocent bystanders, and see their eyes looking at me, through the lens. Fairly succesful.

Bhimashankar

A weekend trip to the mountains, and in the rains, is something that few realize the beauty of. It is an experience that gets you closer to nature, helps you focus on the details .. the different facets of the green wild outdoors. It encompasses all things, big and small, in one harmonious green blanket .. be it the gigantic waterfalls, to the 1-centimetre mud frogs hopping around in the grass. It all gels to form one glorious ecosystem.

..The white gush of the Bhorgiri waterfall. The strength and the sound of it was amazing.

Perched Atop, the Bhimashankar Temple. Wish the temple was more better maintained, and there'd be lesser electric wires in the sky.

Img_6715

..spooky, misty blue skies. The mist at the Bhimashankar temple was fabulous, and it gave way to some really wonderfully blue shots.

Img_6735

This one was a real treasure, even after 129 footsteps had trampled over the grass and moved ahead.. this one stayed intact. The morning dew on a spider's web. Therefore I say, on a trek, watch your step and observe, and nature will open up the sky with enormous wonderful views for you !

Bamboo Pit Viper

It was six of us packed in a SUV, cruising through the dark sleepy rainy night; all keen for some 'activity'. And the activity started on a good note, as we spotted the sexy slithering beauty on the edge of the road near a water stream. The Bamboo Pit Viper, known for its venomous bite and aggressiveness.

Img_6521

This was last night, enroute to Tamhini Ghat, a green patch on the ghat region connection the Konkan region to the Deccan plateau. Usually spotted along the Eastern and Western Ghats, this green slithering crawlie grows to an average length of 40 cms (1 ft 4in) and a maximum of 110 cms (3 ft 7in). Easily identified by its triangular flat head and moss-green or yellow-green color. The lip scales are yellow while the underside can be yellowish or pearly white. Heat sensing pits are present between the eye and nostril.

It is active by night, mainly arboreal moving slowly from branch to branch. It is know to vibrate its tail when disturbed and strike with its mouth wide open.

University of Poona

The University of Pune (formerly the University of Poona), located in North Western Pune, is one of India's premier universities. It was founded in 1949. Spread over a 400 acre (1.6 km²) campus, the university is home to 46 academic departments. But to put it in my words, it reminded me of the oh-so-dear and missed IIT campus.

Many say, the University is a dangerous area after the sun sets, with risks of robbery looming large. Have to check it out :-). Some clicks in classic polaroid style

Pearly Gates? !

The University of Poona. The old building is being restored currently, and I can say, they are doing a pretty bad job there. BTW, photography of the old building is NOW prohibited

Ophiophilia

love of snakes is called ophiophilia, a fear of snakes is called ophidiophobia (or snakephobia). Amongst the most prettiest reptiles in the world, they have often been mistaken and killed for no reason at all

Got some pictures of the snakes in the pits, by means of a visit to Katraj Snake Park in Pune. The people thronged to see the pretty creatures, screamed and hissed at the slithering beauties, .. wish there was something to protect them from this dangerous animal : Man.

Some pictures from an ophiophilic photographer :)
